Kabarak University Partners with University of Nairobi and University of California San Francisco to Empower Girls in Data Science

Kabarak University has joined a collaborative effort with the University of Nairobi (UON) and the University of California, San Francisco’s Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) on a groundbreaking initiative called Enabling Girls in AI and Growing Expertise (ENGAGE). This project, funded by a grant from Takeda Pharmaceuticals’ CSR, aims to empower over 800 underprivileged girls and young women across Kenya with critical skills in data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) for public health.
A recent meeting between UoN representatives and Prof. John Ochola- DVC (A&R) of Kabarak University representing the Vice Chancellor, Professor Henry Kiplangat, laid the groundwork for this crucial partnership.
The collaboration will see Kabarak University collaborate in the delivery and implementation of the ENGAGE project. This initiative aligns perfectly with Kabarak University’s commitment to providing educational opportunities that empower future generations. By equipping young women with these in-demand skills, ENGAGE is poised to transform lives, improve public health outcomes across Kenya, and serve as a model for similar programs throughout Africa.
