ENGAGE Project joint Research and Training collaboration established with South Eastern Kenya University(SEKU)

The ENGAGE (Enabling Girls in AI and Growing Expertise) project took a significant step forward on April 30th, 2024, with a successful inception visit to South East Kenya University (SEKU).

A team led by Professor Julius Oyugi, Director of the University of Nairobi Institute for Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) and Principal Investigator for ENGAGE, met with SEKU officials including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Douglas Shitanda

The Vice Chancellor of SEKU, warmly welcomed the ENGAGE team. He expressed his excitement about collaborating with the University of Nairobi to implement the ENGAGE program. The visit aimed to establish a formal collaboration for joint research and training initiatives within the ENGAGE project.

The ENGAGE Project team toured SEKU’s facilities and held productive discussions with faculty members regarding the project’s implementation. This visit created a basis for a strong commitment from SEKU to collaborate with UoN on ENGAGE. The role of SEKU as a regional collaborator will be to host the beneficiaries of the ENGAGE training programs. SEKU will also support the project by availing the institutions’ facilities such as the computer labs, students accommodation facilities and faculty.
