Courtesy call to DVC Academics Research and Student Affairs at Meru University of Science and Technology

The ENGAGE Team, comprising our Principal Investigator, Professor Julius Oyugi, and Co-Principal Investigator, Dr Sara Koki Muli-Kinagwi, was accompanied by our Regional Coordinator from Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST), Dr. Grace Gakii, to pay a courtesy call to the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Simon Thuranira.

Already well-acquainted with our project and the immense work we are doing together to empower young women in rural Kenya and beyond, Professor Thuranira welcomed us once more to the University, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Rosmanus Odhiambo.

During our interaction, Professor Thuranira reaffirmed the commitment of the university, himself, and the VC to the ENGAGE Project, adding that they were proud to continue being part of shaping lives and communities through education.

Professor Julius Oyugi extended his sincere thanks on behalf of the wider ENGAGE team, recognizing MUST’s incredible role in equipping young women and girls with essential skills in Data Science, AI, and Machine Learning; tools geared toward empowering, safeguarding, and transforming our communities.

It has been our pleasure visiting and partnering with this great institution. Our collaboration epitomizes the collective power that is harnessed when like-minded entities come together to achieve a common goal. STEM-related fields have long been male-dominated. However,  with our goal of having 880 girls equipped with skills to lead and bring change in their communities, we believe that our project will bring the much-needed change to the domain.
Inclusive solutions, more women at decision-making tables, and an empowered society where modern tools are accessible to everyone and benefit everyone, are the fruits we wish to see.

This collaboration will go a long way in ensuring that AI, Data Science, and Machine Learning skills are accessed in the grassroots. Together, we are making a big difference. To many more years of this transformative journey.
